Hodges, a Georgia native, comes from a family of teachers. Her mother, father, and brother have also dedicated their lives to educating people. Her family serves as role models as she embarks on her career as a high school teacher and she takes comfort in knowing that valuable advice and inspiration are just a phone call away.
“My mom is very important in my life,” said Hodges. “She’s like my best friend. And since she’s also a teacher, I ask her a lot of questions. She helps me out. She’s one of my biggest…she’s one of my heroes. I call my mom every day.”
Hodges used to be a student-athlete while in college. Currently, she helps out with Central’s softball team. She feels that the experience of playing sports in college helped teach her important life lessons that will very much translate into helping her be a better teacher.
“Sports play a big role in what I think about when I teach,” Hodges commented. “I was a student-athlete in college and that helped me figure out how everyone learns differently. It taught me that I have to explain things in different ways and meet the students where they’re at no matter where they’re at.”

Beginning a new career in a new state isn’t the only exciting thing currently happening in Hodges’s life. She’s looking forward to walking down the aisle of matrimony in a couple months. “I’m getting married in December, so I’ve been spending weekends going home (to Georgia) and planning the wedding with my family.”
All the anticipation, excitement, and anxiety of being away from family, starting a new career, and planning a wedding in a different state hasn’t dampened Hodges’s enthusiasm for connecting with her new students and working to influence them in the same way her mother and others influenced her life. “I’m looking most forward to making relationships with our students and having an impact on their lives – no matter how big or how small,” said Hodges. “Just being there for them. I want to be a role model for them.” The future is bright for Hodges at Central High School and she is most definitely thrilled to be a part of the bobcat community.
