Meet Jetzabe Lopez Juarez

You may not catch her in front of the class, but away from the crowds, meet Jetzabe Lopez Juarez.

Jetzabe is a junior in high school at Central. When she’s not in school, she likes to spend her time watching Disney movies with her family. Her favorite is Coco.

Jetzabe and her family only moved to Fountain City four years ago. Before that, she lived in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and briefly, San Antonio, Texas. “I don’t go out a lot, so I don’t really know Knoxville too well,” she said. “But I like it. I like the nature.” Since moving here, Jetzabe has found her community at her church, Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, and here at Central. Reflecting on her time in high school so far, she says, “I have accomplished a lot of things here at Central.”

While Jetzabe hasn’t done much traveling around the United States since moving here, she has been to Miami and New York. “In Miami, I just went to see family, and I didn’t really like it there,” she said. “In New York, I loved everything.”

Back in Knoxville, Jetzabe spends much of her time doing schoolwork. She dreams someday of being a psychologist or a lawyer. For now, she keeps on top of her homework by “doing what I have to when I should.”

When not doing schoolwork, she enjoys spending time with her family, who she’s very close with. She recounts a time several years ago where she accidentally broke a plate while helping her mom clean and, in a panic, wrapped it up and tossed it out the window so her mom wouldn’t see. “I was caught, of course,” she said, smiling. Jetzabe has four siblings, including a twin. “We don’t look alike, so no one ever believes we’re twins,” she said.

Jetzabe is generally a very calm, easygoing person. She has no critical issues she feels strongly about or passionate opinions. She says she’s afraid of being misinterpreted as antisocial- she simply prefers to observe. “Talking to people and being in big groups is stressful,” she says. Instead of doing those things, Jetzabe says, “I like to read.” While she has no favorite books, she enjoys the fantasy and romance genres. She also enjoys listening to “slow music” and Harry Styles. She enjoys singing, too, although she had no specific examples of songs.

Jetzabe is a kind person and a talented writer, and The Bobcat Times will be lucky to have her on its staff this semester.
