American Sign Language appeared in Central’s course catalog for the first time in the fall of 2018. Mrs. Lawson is the ASL teacher and she is expanding beyond her classroom to also sponsor a club. If a student is currently enrolled or just curious to learn more about ASL, this club is for them!
In ASL Club, Mrs. Lawson plans for students to meet twice a month on Wednesday in Central’s library classroom. She hopes for club members to “step up and help plan Deaf events across Fountain City” and for locals to join in. The first meeting will be Wednesday, October 30. Club members will come together to plan events to get closer to the Deaf community. Mrs. Lawson wants students to plan our own events such as Deaf bowling, Starbucks meetings, community work, volunteering, and many others. She also plans to invite a visitor or two and hopes that many people will come out to join this club.
