A New Culture Comes to Central

For the first time ever, Central will be offering a Chinese Language Class. Ms. Vivian Chang, who grew up in China, will teach the course through the University of Michigan and the Confucius Institute.

Beginning in January, Central will give students the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese. However, because Chinese is such a complex language, it will be taught in a different way than other foreign languages offered at CHS. Students in the class will learn the Chinese alphabet, be able to understand different tones, and learn all about the culture of China.

Ms. Chang arrived in Knoxville this September from China where she taught young children English. Students there begin learning English in the second or third grade. Ms. Chang will spend three years with us at Central as part of her time with the Confucius Institute. She is very excited to be here!

If you are interested in taking this class, please speak to your guidance counselor about adjusting your schedule.
