Netflix’s new show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a spin off of the 90’s classic Sabrina’s Secret Life, told from Sabrina the teenage witch’s perspective.
Only 10 episodes, the Netflix original leaves binge-watchers wanting more. With the same producers as hit show Riverdale, the cinematic excellence between the show carries over. Even a few easter eggs present for avid Riverdale watchers.
Still following the basic characters as the original show, there are also many twist present. The first episode follows Sabrina’s conflict between “the path of light,” being a human, and the “path of night,” becoming a witch. She is caught between these two worlds and having a new darker take than the original adds even more drama and anticipation.
Personally, I can’t wait for the next season to come out. Harvey, Sabrina’s boyfriend, is played by Disney star Ross Lynch and it was really fun to see actors I recognized. Ambrose, Sabrina’s cousin, has also become a fan favorite and some are already demanding for a spin-off for his character. The series is perfect for the cooler fall weather, and the show is incredibly well produced. Something unique to the filming is whenever there is magic present or something “witchy” going on the camera will tilt and the sides will blur very subtly.
I went in with mildly low expectations after learning it was made by the same producers as Riverdale, but I was blown away by how unique yet nostalgic the show was.
